The Most Canadian Thing To DoMaple Syrup thrives in a cold climate just as we Canadians have thrived in the cold. This makes maple syrup something we hold dearly to our hearts as part of our Canadian heritage.
Extracted from trees in which the beginning starch is converted into sugar from the rising sap, maple syrup enjoys a unique harvesting process. As late Winter and early Spring approaches, the harvesting of maple syrup poses opportunity for activities and festivals! Check out our Maple Syrup Guide below to help you navigate this delicious time of year! Title photo courtesy of Palmer's Maple Syrup Every year, millions of Canadians engage in thousands of free activities and performances hosted by artists, cultural organizations and municipalities in communities across Canada. From Nunavut to New Brunswick, and from British Columbia to Baffin Island – and all points in between – we share all the inspiration, artistry, creativity and expression that reflects the mosaic of Canadian culture.
Culture Days is a not-for-profit organization that aims to build a "national network of cultural connections devoted to providing Canadians with opportunities to participate in, and appreciate, all forms of arts and culture.” For the past seven years, the last Friday of September has kicked off a three-day national celebration to increase Canadians' “awareness, accessibility, participation, and engagement” in their communities’ vibrant cultural life.
Culture Days celebrations return this year from Friday, September 30th to Sunday, October 2nd, and there are tons of free, participatory arts activities happening across Elgin County for you to participate in! National Canadian Film Day
A FREE AND FUN EVENT! April 20, 2016 is National Canadian Film Day, a day to throw off the shackles of fear and insecurity, stand together with Canadians from coast to coast and pat ourselves on the back for something other than various ice-related sports and sports-related doughnut shops. It’s a light-hearted intervention for our national consciousness, a wake-up call to anyone who has not yet been exposed to the great cinematic stories we tell one another in this cold, vast country. More: www.canadianfilmday.ca Canada's birthday is coming up JULY 1st (in case you forgot!) and in celebration of that, we thought we'd dig a little into what makes this country so special.
