Ahhh, fall - the crunchy leaves, the crisp autumn breeze, arguably the most romantic time of the year. So much to do, so much to see, so much pumpkin spice to consume, where do we even start?
Thankfully, we have some spectacular, spooky suggestions for you and your boo this harvest season! In need of a good read? At our Little Free Libraries, that you’re guaranteed!
Apologies for the Seussian start but we guarantee you will not be disappointed, no matter your favourite genre! Located all over our beautiful city, we have a map featuring all the little library locations that you can see here, and we’d definitely recommend checking them all out! But in the age of COVID, many of us have spent more time at home than we would’ve probably have liked to, so we’re here to show you some of our favourite spots to settle down with a book (or a few!) Explore the Railway City this Spring!Find off-the-beaten track trails, parks, public art, and so much more! Be surprised by your own backyard and win prizes along the way.
From photographing a Blue Heron to visitng our favourite local elephant to say "Hi", the Railway City Scavenger Hunt has a mix of easy, intriguing, and more challenging missions to take part in. Emerging after a long winter (and, LBR, and rather lengthy 2020) it's time to shake off the cobwebs and discover some of our local hidden, and not so hidden, gems! We won't give it all away, afterall what's the fun in that? Read on to learn how to sign up and just what's at stake! Has anyone ever heard the story of the cow, the buffalo and the storm?
Let's start with the cow. When a storm is brewing a cow can sense it coming in and will start to run in the opposite direction. As one would expect, the cow cannot possibly outrun the storm. What happens as they continue to run, is they end up running along with the storm. They have completely managed to maximize the pain, time and stress brought by that storm. Many of us love to travel far and wide, exploring new places and thrilling at new experiences. There is value in that type of exploration and learning about different people & places. The flip side is when we spend our energy on this form of travel, we can be too drained or without the time to explore places closer to home.
Best of all, exploring close to home reaps many many rewards!
Just because we can’t travel or get out and explore right now, doesn’t mean we can’t treat ourselves to an isolation-staycation! Check out our Local Nature Love guide below and follow our blog series as we highlight activities and things you can do from your living room or that are safe to do outside that help support our local businesses, musicians, artists, museums and more.
Given our efforts to contain the Covid-19 virus, many people have been awarded time off during the spring of 2020. Therefore, to “take a sad song and make it better”, here are a few local family friendly activities that everyone and anyone is welcome to partake in during this uncanny time.
