“ St. Thomas Ontario, pays tribute to Jumbo, the most beloved animal that ever lived -- the elephant that captured the heart and admiration of all who saw him, with his genteel nature and mammoth size.
On September 15, 1885, he died accidentally on a railway at St. Thomas. Jumbo was 24 years of age.
His name became part of our language. He lives today in our memory.”
