🎭 Historic charm meets live performance in the heart of St. Thomas!

Located at 40 Princess Avenue, the Princess Avenue Playhouse is one of the city's most striking architectural landmarks and the proud home of the Elgin Theatre Guild.

Originally constructed in 1907 as a Church of Disciples, this historic red-brick venue was designed by notable local architect Neil Darrach (who also designed St. Thomas City Hall). In 1987, the Guild transformed the space into a vibrant home for arts and culture while carefully preserving its heritage features—including its distinctive towers, three striking facades, and beautiful stained-glass windows (which are often cleverly incorporated right into set designs and stage productions!).

​Powered entirely by the grassroots creativity and passion of the volunteer-run Elgin Theatre Guild, the Playhouse has delighted audiences for over fifty seasons:

• Four Annual Mainstage Productions: Welcoming thousands of theatre lovers each year for an incredible range of live shows—from laugh-out-loud comedies and heartwarming pantos to thought-provoking dramas.
• Premier Canadian Concerts: An intimate acoustic venue hosting Juno Award-winning Canadian musicians, including Sloan, Bruce Cockburn, Jimmy Rankin, Hawksley Workman, and the Ennis Sisters.
