🕊️ A Peaceful Sanctuary of Reflection & Remembrance
Located in the heart of downtown St. Thomas at the corner of Moore and Talbot Streets, the Veterans Memorial Garden is a deeply meaningful urban parkland dedicated to honoring the sacrifice of local servicemen and women. Opened in 2017 to mark Canada 150, the garden thoughtfully consolidates historic monuments from across the region—including the St. Thomas Cenotaph, the Elgin County First World War Memorial, the Afghanistan Memorial, and a living Vimy Oak.
Situated directly along the Whistlestop Trail near the iconic CASO Station, the garden features red maple leaf stone motifs pressed into the walkways and an interactive QR-code military history display crafted from authentic WWII bridge components by the 31 Combat Engineer Regiment (The Elgins). It serves as an everyday sanctuary for quiet contemplation, as well as the proud home of the community's annual Remembrance Day Ceremony every November 11th.
