The practice of healing through forestry can be traced back to Antiquity by Roman authors and naturalists. These practices continued and expanded through the Middle Ages, particularly in the east. By the 20th century, the term Shinrin-yoku or forest bathing was coined in Japan in the 1980s in response to the growing urbanization and technological advancement, as a way to preserve and protect forests. Since then, the practice has spread to more modern, western practices of natural wellness. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinrin-yoku) Forest bathing is an exercise is mindfulness. To forest bathe, pick a trail or area that is in a wooded spot. Take a nature walk and make sure to stay present and in the moment. Focus on the environment around you. What does it look like? What does it smell like? What does it feel like? What does it sound like? Focusing on these aspects, make sure you keep a slow, calm pace. If you find a spot you particularly like, stop, take a break, and watch the trees sway in the wind. Make sure you allow yourself an “awe” moment of amazement and wonder at the atmosphere around you. Tip: Make sure to pack some sunscreen, bug spray, and water. A PLace In The WoodsA Place In The Woods is a place for people to reconnect with themselves and nature.
