Welcome to Studio Arts Academy & Rock School, the place where creativity, passion, and talent come together in a dazzling symphony of artistic expression! Get ready to dive into a world of inspiration and endless possibilities created by the May family. Located in the vibrant heart of St. Thomas, our colorful studio space is a haven for musicians of all ages and skill levels. Say hello to the extraordinary powerhouse that is Studio Arts! Who is Studio Arts Academy & Rock School? First up, we have Brian, a 58-year-old St. Thomas resident with an impressive 53 years of music experience. Alongside him is Anita, a passionate educator. But wait, there's more! Jared, not only an outstanding instructor but also a master of numbers and finances, brings his unique skills to the mix. And let's not forget about Brendan and Carisa, the dynamic duo who excel in group instruction and professional administration, and bring their communication expertise to the table. Together, they form the heart and soul of Studio Arts, where instructors and students alike are embraced as part of our musical family. Why did they choose to start Studio Arts Academy & Rock School? Studio Arts was born in 1997, and with the help of Brian's brother, Joe, it officially took flight as St. Thomas Studio Arts in October 2007. Since then, we've blossomed from offering a single program, Rock School, to becoming a flourishing music center that caters to individuals of all ages and abilities. We believe that music should be accessible to anyone with a desire to incorporate it into their life. When asked about the motivation behind starting this business, Brian attributes it to his two sons, Brendan and Jared. Their early involvement in a kids' band called Make Noise sparked a passion for teaching young children to create music and work together as a team. What do they love most about what they do? Teaching music and witnessing the progress of their students brings them immeasurable joy! But the real magic happens when they see the kids who grew up with us pursue their own musical dreams. “It's absolutely incredible! We've witnessed former students become rock star lead singers in bands, join recreational bands, jam in ukulele groups, and groove in drumming circles”. Some even enjoy musical jam sessions with their children at home, creating unforgettable memories. And former students continue the tradition and enrol their own children in Studio Arts. “We couldn't be prouder to have former Studio Arts students, who have now blossomed into talented adults, join our team of instructors." What does Studio Arts Music Academy & Rock School want to highlight about their business? We'd love to highlight something truly special to us. Brian May, in particular, wants to share his personal journey with you. Growing up, he was torn between his love for sports and music. However, he soon realized that while sports had its limitations, music was a lifelong gift that would always bring joy. To Brian, music is therapy, emotion, brain stimulation, creativity, math, fun—music is life! That's why he encourages families to consider giving their children the opportunity to learn music as a language and a skill. And hey, seniors, don't miss out! Learning music has incredible benefits, such as stimulating brain activity, forming social connections, and providing a creative and therapeutic outlet. It's never too late to dive into the magical world of music! What is the secret to teaching music? Get ready for the ultimate secret to teaching music—it's all about the fun and bubbly approach! The folks at Studio Arts Academy & Rock School have a trick up their sleeves that'll make your music lessons a blast - instead of trying to be the all-knowing maestro, they jump into the student's music journey with a big smile. They establish a connection, groove along, and meet the student exactly where they are on their musical adventure. Together, they work towards reaching the next level of awesomeness. It's all about putting the spotlight on the student, not the teacher. What impact do they have on the St. Thomas community? From the moment they opened their doors, they've seen a whirlwind of excitement, actively participating in events across parks, churches, malls, and festivals. Even during the pandemic, when events had to hit pause, Studio Arts didn't miss a beat. They kept the music alive by providing online music lessons and care sessions via Zoom. The Mays, along with friends form the band May Kin Music, and have become the life of the monthly dances at the St. Thomas Seniors' Centre. These dances are the hottest ticket in town, where the community gathers to boogie and have a blast. And who steals the show at these incredible events? You got it—the individuals and bands from Studio Arts! Additionally, Studio Arts has brought the rhythm to the Seniors' Centre with their weekly music programs. Every Monday, Brian leads the "No Worries" ukulele group, spreading good vibes and groovy melodies. And every Thursday they host drumming sessions that make everyone's heart thump to the beat. Their involvement has transformed the Seniors' Centre into a hub of musical energy and pure joy. At Studio Arts, they're all about creating unforgettable experiences for their students. That's why they organize two dedicated recitals each year. And mark your calendars because their first post-pandemic event is just around the corner on June 24th! It's going to be a mind-blowing celebration of music at the St. Thomas Seniors' Centre, where hundreds of students and their families come together to experience the magic of local musicians. Get ready to be blown away! Learn More Studio Arts is located at 156 Edward Street. Visit their website to learn more!
