Looking for a sweet read? We’re bringing one right to you as we have the latest  scoop on another amazing local business.
Did you catch all our ice cream puns in the introduction? Then you probably guessed right, we are featuring The Ice Box, located at 125 Ross Street. Joining our community back in 2020, The Ice Box makes in-house ice cream and  gelato, some of which feature ingredients from other local businesses. They also have frozen yogurt, soft serve ice cream and are loved by local pets for their famous Pawsicles! We connected with Markus Hawco, the owner, to find out more on The Ice Box story...

1) What is the story behind starting the Ice Box? Why did you choose to start this venture?
When I was working as a public accountant and I transferred back to the St. Thomas area, I realized we didn’t have anything like the Ice Box here. I was looking for a venture where I could be my own boss, and the impact would make people happy. After launching and getting the Ice Box in motion, we have developed into being a craft ice cream maker.

2) What do you hope is the impact of the Ice Box on the St. Thomas community?
My hope is that the Ice Box is not only a first of mind place to go for celebrations and to enjoy a cool treat, but a place where people feel welcomed. Our priority it for people to know we have something for all dietary needs so everyone can enjoy a visit. I also want our business to challenge larger companies to offer better quality products and service, as people get used to our high standards.

3) Since you've opened, what has been your favourite part of operating your business?
My favourite part is seeing the excitement of young kids come to the Ice Box to celebrate something; especially, when they said to their parents they wanted to come to us. I absolutely love that we get to be apart of the special moments with our customers!

4) Are there any stories, or additional news you would like us to share in the post?
There are so many stories of customers who are relieved and excited when their dietary needs have been met. The Ice Box has an extensive variety of options for individuals to enjoy a treat, rather than just stand by and watch. That’s huge for us.
