Located all over our beautiful city, we have a map featuring all the little library locations that you can see here, and we’d definitely recommend checking them all out! But in the age of COVID, many of us have spent more time at home than we would’ve probably have liked to, so we’re here to show you some of our favourite spots to settle down with a book (or a few!)

If you've been to Caps Off Brewing or From the Vines lately, you may have noticed something a little different between the two spaces... A new mural by Wendell Graves titled "Amusements" was recently installed, and it couldn't be a better fit for the location! Through this process, we learned that Wendell's father worked out of this very building when it was still Moore Tire Ltd. Read on to learn more about the mural and how it connects to our unique heritage!

All Are My Relatives | a Mural by Nancy Deleary, an accomplished artist & Cultural Coordinator at Chippewas of the Thames First Nation
Completed at the St. Thomas Public Library, the mural 'All Are My Relatives' by indigenous artist Nancy Deleary highlights the importance of storytelling, and will captivate the next generation of children who gather to read books and listen to speakers in the outdoor reading garden.
This mural connects with the specific setting at the Library, as well as the surrounding neighbourhood. The upper portion of the artwork, visible from the street, features a fire, row of corn, and an extraordinary night sky, a spectacular setting for the central characters including a storyteller and those gathered to listen by the fire.

We're back with another mural! Talented, local artist Chris Cherry just completed an origami-inspired elephant mural. Can you guess where? It's at Waterworks Park right by the splash pad! This mural has small components reminiscent of Chris' style, including his circle rings, x's and other hidden elements (look for the mouse!), all while incorporating the warm and playful colours of yellow, orange and red. As summer is coming to an end, add this to your 2021 summer bucket list because you don't want to miss it!

One of the latest murals in the Track to the Future mural project is brought to us by regional designer & artist Kayla Whitney. This latest mural is located at Simply Pure Water, and showcases the nurturing and special relationship between a mother elephant and her calf. We've really enjoyed seeing all these murals go up around the city as each artist uses their own style to tell a story. If you're looking for an activity to get you out and about, take a stroll down the Whistlestop Trail and visit this masterpiece!

We're back with a 'Track to the Future' mural update! Another incredible mural has now been completed by the talented Laura Woermke, a local artist and Executive Director of the St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre. Find Laura's masterpiece at the Joe Thornton Community Centre, looking sharp on a red brick backdrop and reminiscent of her popular style of landscape painting!

We're back with another 'Track to the Future' mural update! A third mural has now been completed by the talented Ann-Marie Cheung, a local artist. Where can you go check out this new masterpiece? Downtown St. Thomas at the Railway City Tourism office! The murals are a beautiful addition to our community, not only because they add colour and photo ops, but they also provide artists with a public platform to showcase our city's story with beautiful themes and meaningful symbolism.
Did you know elephants will come together to mourn their dead? I see all these newly painted elephants around St. Thomas coming together to lament and honour Jumbo in a joyous way. - Ann-Marie Cheung

Looking for an update on the 'Track to the Future' mural project? You're in luck as our second mural of the season honouring Jumbo the Elephant has been completed by the talented mural artist Sbuone! The purpose of this portion of the project is to create a scavenger hunt for original elephant murals throughout the city - with the latest thought provoking art piece located at Railway City Brewing Company.

Most people are familiar with AR technology through the popularity of Pokémon Go. With the Engage app’s St. Thomas adventure, AR technology is being used to learn about our own community. Users can walk to a particular location and use the app to scan the area, which will initiate the AR attraction. The attractions range from themed minigames to short history features, covering themes like the region’s railway history, mural artwork, and the veteran’s memorial.

Building on the tremendous success of the ‘Track to the Future’ mural project that launched in 2020, Railway City Tourism began a new phase of the project - creating a scavenger hunt of original elephant murals throughout St. Thomas! This homage honouring Jumbo the Elephant started the season with artist Kristyn Watterworth and her colourfully fun parade of elephants found across from the entry to the St. Thomas Elevated Park.
