The humble beginnings of the now “St. Thomas Cornhole league” began 6-7 years ago when some neighbors started playing in driveways and backyards. This quickly became a weekend addiction for a small group of friends on Ambleside Drive, which eventually led to Jim Dodge and myself, Jeff Halcovitch, approaching Railway City Brewery to see if they would be interested in hosting the league on Tuesday nights. We posted some ads on Facebook, and we had 15-20 players show up on the inaugural night. We quickly outgrew Railway City Brewing, and started playing in a church gymnasium for a few seasons. The league started to grow, mostly by word of mouth, and through some new members, we were introduced to Rod Calder, the owner of The Back Alley Bar and Grill and all around great guy. Thanks to Rod & Tracy's generous support of the league we are now one of the longest running and competitive leagues in all of Ontario. The best part of running the league comes down to one simple word…friends, as this recreational sport has brought so many of us together every Tuesday night for the past 4 years, we cant imagine what we would do without our weekly fix of amazing friends, both new and old. We like to think that the community has benefited from the league, as we support local business, donate to the foodbank, and generally enrich lives of members by providing a fun, safe and welcoming atmosphere. Our biggest accomplishments as a league are our continued growth, we are often sold out season after season; and we have spawned some amazing players that compete at the highest level in Canada. We're about to begin our 10th Season since we started in 2020, a pretty big milestone for us. We've already sold out our upcoming Season 10, but we are excited to spread the word in our community that we are here, and want to grow further interest in the sport. If You Go...The St. Thomas Cornhole League operates out of the Back Alley Bar & Grill. Registration is required to participate. You can contact the league via the social links below.
